During a round table discussion on balancing Ukraine’s energy and gas supply markets, the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) presented a White Paper on how to best regulate these markets.
The White Paper helps public authorities use regulatory reform to empower consumers, support SMEs and increase the overall efficiency and competitiveness of the energy sector. The paper provides practical tips for expanding the rights and opportunities of consumers and optimising the retail electricity market.
Recommendations of interest to SMEs include:
- Make the process of joining the electrical grid less complex and less costly.
- Increase financing for modernising and constructing electrical grids.
- Create more business opportunities by separating electrical supply from electrical distribution.
- Establish common rules to govern all market players.
“The keys to developing a sustainable energy market are consumers and businesses, including SMEs,” says BRDO Energy Expert Alexei Orzhel. “Thus, having clear rules and regulations is an important first step towards creating a competitive energy sector in Ukraine.”
